Our beautiful Chalet Le Dragon in La Chapelle d’Abondance, offers picture postcard views from its balconies and bedrooms. La Chapelle d’Abondance offers enough facilities and services to satisfy all the needs of the discerning traveller. There are over 10 restaurants, bars and Pizzerias to discover and enjoy; including one of the oldest restaurants in the valley, Les Cornettes and also the infamous Fer Rouge micro-brewery and restaurant. These are all less than a 10 minute walk from the chalet. There is also a well-stocked InterMarche, Tabac and gift shops showcasing regional specialities, a delicatessen, a bakery and patisserie, currency exchange services and ATM, a tourist information, post office, a laundrette and first class medical facilities.
This area is perfect for those wishing to visit in the balmy summer months, as there are over 750km of way-marked footpaths and hiking trails between Switzerland and France ranging from family-friendly riverside strolls through to tougher overnight treks staying in mountain refuge huts! To experience the flora, fauna and water features of the mountains, the cable cars operate from July to September (contact us for exact operating dates), making the high mountains available to recreational walkers. Why not enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the rustic refuges then walk down the mountain and stop for a refreshing dip in the River Dranse as it winds its way throughout the valley surrounded by forests of magnificent fir trees?
As the region borders both France and Switzerland, the regional cuisine offers traditions from both sides of the border, with the emphasis being on local dishes such as Croute Savoyard, Fondues, Raclettes, and most importantly, fine local wines!
Also, sitting to the North, is the amazing Lake Geneva, easily accessible at only 30 minutes away, with its lovely lakeside beaches, boat trips and quaint pavement cafes and restaurants. The town of Evian, famous for its production of mineral water, has fantastic views of Lake Geneva and offers a plethora of water sports and also a fantastic indoor tropical waterpark for those adrenaline seekers!
At our chalet you will be looked after by ourselves, Matthew and Emma, on a Bed and Breakfast basis and we are both experienced and knowledgeable hosts. Your bed and breakfast chalet experience includes:
