La Chapelle d'Abondance and surrounding area

I thought that I would start this blog with some images of the village, La
Chapelle d'Abondance, and some of the surrounding French countryside.
La Chapelle d'Abondance is located in Eastern France in the Haute-Savoie
area near to the Swiss border and within a stone's throw of Lake Geneva. It
is a beautiful village with remarkable religious heritage, including two
chapels and the church of St. Maurice with its elegant bell domes. The
valley that surrounds the village is overflowing with beauty and nature and
old cottages and chalets weave their way throughout the mountainside,
proudly displaying their traditional, carved wooden balconies made from the
wood sourced from the local forests.
The village is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area with 650km of alpine
skiing runs and 35km of Nordic trails to enjoy surrounded by forests of
magnificent fir trees. The village forms the perfect base for an all year
round holiday, with easy access to the lifts taking you up to the
mountainside or if you prefer you can follow the path of the River Dranse as
it winds its way throughout the valley.
La Chapelle D'Abondance offers enough facilities and services to satisfy all
the needs of the discerning traveller. There is a small but well-stocked
supermarket, Tabac and gift shops showcasing regional specialities, a
delicatessen, a bakery and patisserie, currency exchange services and ATM, a
tourist information, a laundrette and medical facilities. Both in the
village and around the mountains there are a wide choice of restaurants,
bars and creperies to discover and enjoy.
The resort village provides a warm atmosphere, just what's needed after an
exhilarating day in the mountains. Tasting the local specialities, relaxing
at open air concerts or special theme evenings, the choices are endless!
