During the summer months, thoughts in the Abondance valley turn towards
mountain biking. The villages convert their ski lifts and buses to carry
bikes and teams of specially trained staff are employed to maintain the
miles of well kept tracks and trails. The staff patrol the area on bikes
and are on hand to help and advise riders who may be lost or just have a
query!
The AreaThe Portes du Soleil is a bike riders playground. The area is made up of
several villages in France and Switzerland, all linked by a massive network
of ski lifts that are adapted in summer to carry mountain bikes.
Valley D'Abondance in the Portes du Soleil and has some of the best and most
challenging downhill runs in the area. Whether road, downhill,
cross-country, or just getting out and about on your bike is what you're
after, there really is no better place to come.
Next door, Châtel is fast becoming known for its large number of well kept
downhill tracks, and for the fact that it is one of the most challenging
areas in the Portes du Soleil for biking! The downhill world cup is
regularly held here.
The vast downhill area at Pre La Joux is accessed via the high speed
chairlift, specially adapted to carry Mountain Bikes, meaning you need never
turn your pedals!
At the top of the lifts you can venture further, dropping down into
Linderettes and taking on the downhill in Avoriaz, again without having to
pedal once!
However if a bit of pedalling is your thing then you can take on some of the
many fantastic and scenic cross country routes from Châtel, across the
border into Switzerland, or over to Morzine, Avoriaz, or Les Gets. Cruise
along mountain ridges, by rivers and through lush green forests, the
possibilities really are endless.
