Top Tips for a Super Ski or Snowboard Break at Chalet Le Dragon

Top Tips for a Super Ski or Snowboard Break at Chalet Le Dragon

1) The Journey:
Most guests take flights from the UK to Geneva as they are relatively short. Prices are at their lowest now (£60 return from Gatwick on EasyJet) so book as early as possible. Don’t forget car parking and car hire. We can also arrange transfers for you with a local specialist and in 90 minutes you will be with us.

2) Improve your skiing:
We recommend choosing ESF La Chapelle, ESF Chatel or BASS for your ski lessons as all levels of previous guests have got on well with them. We offer a free ski orientation morning on red runs to help familiarise you with the pistes of the Portes du Soleil. If you require ski guiding please let us know when booking with us and we can arrange this for you.

3) Technical clothing:
This may be stating the obvious, but being kitted out in warm, waterproof clothing that also allows flexibility of movement ensures your comfort. We have partnered with Simply Piste who delivers by mail order some of the best ski clothing and equipment.

4) Ski equipment:
Most guests hire their
ski equipment through our popular “in-chalet” service via Ski Hire 2U. This saves time and reduces stress on arrival at the chalet. You will need to make sure that our equipment hire form has been completed and returned before arrival at the chalet. If you have your own equipment, Ski Hire 2U can service it for you overnight.

5) Getting to the slopes:
With any ski holiday, the best way to spend the first day is just enjoying yourself on the slopes and seeing what ability level everyone in the party is at. We will drop you at the best lifts and also arrange your lift passes so that you are ready to go on day 1. To get back to Chalet Le Dragon just call us or meet at a pre-arranged time.  Simple!

6) Lunch:
Everyone will be working up a healthy appetite after a morning of hard skiing! The Portes du Soleil has a huge number of restaurants to choose from and we can help to recommend some of our favourites.

7) Sunscreen:
The name Portes du Soleil (doors to the sun) gives it away. Nobody should be blasé about using sunscreen, especially children.  Buy a good sunscreen with a high UVF Protection factor (at least SPF 25) – and don’t forget to apply it to the neck as well as the face.

8) Hearty Evening Meals with Free Wine & Beer
At Chalet Le Dragon we offer a 4 course evening meal with free beer and wine during dinner service. Our focus is on warm hearty meals that will replenish your energy levels after a full days skiing out in the cold snow! All of our meals and desserts are freshly cooked each day using locally purchased meat, fish, vegetables and produce.

9) Relaxation & Fun:

At Chalet Le Dragon we know relaxation is also important to you, especially after a hard days skiing. This is why we have installed a 32 jet hot tub in the woodshed, which has great views of Mont de Grange.  Some bedrooms also have large baths to relax in.

In winter it becomes dark very early, so after dinner there is time to play some traditional board games. Chalet Le Dragon has a selection of games for guests including Cards, Monopoly, Jenga and Scrabble! We also have a selection of DVD’s and a Wii, or why not just relax by the fire with a good book and a warming hot chocolate?

10) Good Travel Insurance:
We saved this until last as we don’t want to put you off!! It is essential that you have good travel insurance. InsureFor.com has been recommended to us for Winter Sports Insurance.

Last season we saw quite a few injuries on the pistes. A helicopter uplift will cost more than 700 Euros and a hospital stay is at least a 1,000 Euros per night in France. You have been warned!!

Need somewhere to stay for your ski holiday this coming season. Chalet Le Dragon (www.skibikeorhike.com) offers luxury catered accommodation in the Portes du Soleil, France from just £499 per person per week.
