Search figures released by Skipad.co.uk, a leading ski accommodation listing website, reveal that the resorts of Morzine and Châtel are rivalling the more traditionally well-known French resorts of Méribel, Chamonix and Courchevel in terms of popularity.
Morzine and Châtel are in pole position, in terms of the most searched-for resorts, followed closely by Chamonix and Courchevel. Figures have been calculated from the website’s total number of ski accommodation searches, from the start of 2011 to date. Interestingly, the lesser-known Bansko in Bulgaria takes fifth place in Skipad.co.uk’s ranking, ahead of the more established French resorts La Plagne and Méribel.
Skipad.co.uk founder Gary Hector explains: “These search statistics indicate that savvy holidaymakers are open to selecting new ski resorts, possibly in order to find bargain accommodation in these tough economic times.
“On Skipad.co.uk, holidaymakers can find great deals on ski accommodation. Prices for a week-long stay in two-bedroom apartment start from just £245 and £300 per week in Morzine and Châtel respectively, our top two most searched-for resorts,” says Hector.
France remains unrivalled as the most popular country for skiers, with eight out of the ten most searched-for resorts in the list, being French. Switzerland, Austria and Italy follow behind France in terms of searches on the website. Bulgaria then takes fifth place, a destination whereby major investment has taken place in recent years to transform resort facilities. “Favoured by budget conscious skiers, Bulgaria is a great option for value-for-money accommodation”, says Hector.
Hector remarks: “Our statistics confirm that France is a frontrunner when it comes to ski destinations, which isn’t really surprising however, given the accessibility of French ski resorts by train or car from numerous European countries. With extensive ski resorts, varied skiing and great food, it’s no wonder France remains a favourite for ski fans.”
